On Saturday 30th March, our school hosted its first Model United Nations conference where the Human Rights Council hosted and debated a resolution meeting on the current humanitarian situation in Yemen.

On Friday 15th March 2019, ten BISB Primary students embarked on a trip to perform at the ‘Big Sing 2019’ in Bratislava. The event was a great success for all the schools involved. Our students performed admirably and professionally throughout the day and collaboratively worked with students from ten other schools to showcase their work in a concert.

This week we celebrated the creative achievements of thirteen students in Year 7 and 8 who wrote and performed their own poems. Inspired by renowned slam poets such as Sarah Kay and Harry Baker, they took to the stage to perform in a poetry showcase to students in Year 10.  The topics ranged from thoughts on self-acceptance to defying gender stereotypes. It was great to see such heartfelt, imaginative and thoughtful performances!

Join us for our upcoming IB Visual Arts, Film and Music Evening on Tuesday 12th March at BISB Theatre. Doors open at 6.00pm.

‘Ask the Artist’ is introducing you to an award winning harpist, Bridget Kibbey. Bridget’s diverse and energetic performances bring the harp to life and her biography on Global Campus Online shows examples of her performing many styles of music; from traditional composers, like J.S. Bach through to contemporary Irish music.

On Saturday 19th January, 18 BISB students climbed the height of Africa’s tallest mountain, Mount Kilimanjaro, to raise money for the Tanzania Expedition 2019. Students asked friends and family to sponsor them in this challenge and the amount raised was close to 500,000 HUF.

Next Monday 28th January we have our first Juilliard alumni visitor of the year. Andrew Robert Munn is a bass singer who completed his graduate studies at The Juilliard School in May 2018 and is now based in Berlin.

In Hungary we are able to experience all four seasons. This is perfect for the Year 1 Science topic of ‘Seasonal Changes’.

Our Christmas Fair was a huge success with over 500 visitors this year! This fair saw the biggest group of volunteers yet coming together to contribute to this success: almost 70 volunteers across 50 different nationalities with many different languages but all with the same mission.

This week our Primary school has been enjoying Maths Week. Morning Brainteasers, Loopy Lego Challenges, Tangram Puzzles and a Shape Scavenger Hunt were just some of the fun activities the students took part in over the week. Our dedicated Year 6 House Captains and Peer Mentors were on hand to collect house points and supervise the lunchtime activities.

DVAC U19 Girls Volleyball – CHAMPIONS! Our KS4/5 girls woke up very early to travel to Bratislava for the annual DVAC U19 Girls Volleyball Tournament last Saturday. After a short nap the soundtrack of Mamma Mia helped energise the team and as a result, the girls were unstoppable for the rest of the day. They played with passion and grit and won all their matches. BISB became DVAC champions again, defending their title.

Year 10 IGCSE Art students are working on Natural Forms charcoal drawings in response to photographs by German naturalist Karl Blossfeldt. The drawings show the fantastic progress their drawing skills have made since September. Look out for them displayed around the school!

Monday got off to an exciting start with the launch of the BISB Maths Week Code Breaking competition. At the time of writing, over 248 different entries have been received from staff, parents and students and the level of ingenuity shown has been absolutely outstanding. The winners of each of the three categories will be announced at the beginning of next week, along with the solution to each of the five codes.

Last Sunday, Mr Dyer and Miss Ford travelled to Kakucs to watch one of our Sixth Form students engage in her passion - motorsport! Annamaria Abari in Year 13 is a keen driver and has even had her own personal racing car spray-painted and decorated with our school logo.
